Frequently Asked Questions
Can I live in the residence halls for the summer?
All students residing on campus this summer will live in the Village and need to be enrolled/registered for either summer 2026 or fall 2026 courses at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
How do I get my room assignment?
First, complete a summer housing application. In May, specific room assignments will be sent to your Huskers email. Assignments will be sent out on a rolling basis for those who sign up after May.
Can I be assigned to my current spring room?
Since summer housing is hosted in the Village, only those currently residing in the Village may have this option. UNL Housing will do their best to assign you to the same room to reduce your number of room moves.
When do I select a meal plan?
You'll select a meal plan in your summer contract in the housing portal.
Can I be assigned to a single room?
All students will be assigned to either a 2- or 4-bedroom unit that consists of a private bedroom with a locking door, and a shared kitchen and living space. At any time throughout the summer, students may be assigned a new roommate(s). Students seeking a private room due to accommodation needs should pursue resources from Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD).
Can I live in The Village for only certain summer sessions?
Students can stay for the duration of the entire summer term or for the length of an individual session. Students are responsible for payment of a 3-week minimum (the shortest summer session available). View the full summer schedule here.
Can I change my hall preference?
The Village is the designated summer residence hall.
Can I change my meal plan?
You can change your meal plan in your housing application in the housing portal until May 1. To make a change after May 1, email housing@unl.edu to request a change.
Can I live in the same room I will have for fall 2026?
If your fall space is available at the time of your summer move-in, the UNL Housing team will do their best to assign you to the same room to reduce your number of room moves.
Can I remain in my spring housing assignment for a few extra days?
Students can request a housing extension for the spring semester with their Residence Director. Don't delay - connect with your RD as soon as possible. Please note, no extension will be approved beyond TIME on DATE. If a student needs to stay later than TIME on DATE, they should pursue a short-term stay request through Conference Services or seek Summer Housing.
Can I cancel my summer housing assignment?
Individuals who cancel their housing application prior to the requested date of occupancy will not incur any cancellation fees. Individuals that cancel once their housing occupancy was intended to begin will incur the minimum 3 week housing rate charge + additional charges for weeks spent occupying the space.
