Contract Cancellation Information

I am a new incoming student.

2019-20 newly admitted UNL students

  • Cancel prior to May 1, 2019 = $0
  • May 1, 2019 through August 15, 2019 = $400
  • August 16, 2019 through May 9, 2020 = 40% of remaining balance of contract.

New spring 2020 semester entrants:

  • Prior to January 10, 2020 = $400
  • January 10, 2020 through May 9, 2020 = 40% of remaining balance

2018-19 newly admitted UNL students

  • Cancel prior to May 1, 2018 = $200
  • May 1, 2018 through August 15, 2018 = $400
  • August 16, 2018 through May 4, 2019 = 40% of remaining balance of contract.

New spring 2019 semester entrants:

  • Prior to January 4, 2019 = $400
  • January 4, 2019 through May 4, 2019 = 40% of remaining balance

I am a current UNL student.

2019-20 academic year contract

  • Prior to May 1, 2019 = $400
  • May 1, 2019 through August 15, 2019 = $1500
  • August 16, 2019 through May 9, 2020 = 40% of remaining balance of contract.

New spring semester contract

  • Prior to January 10, 2020 = $400
  • January 10, 2020 through May 9, 2020 = 40% of remaining balance of contract.

2018-19 academic year contract

  • Prior to May 1, 2018 = $400
  • May 1, 2018 through August 15, 2018 = $1500
  • August 16, 2018 through May 4, 2019 = 40% of remaining balance of contract.

New spring semester contract

  • Prior to January 4, 2019 = $400
  • January 4, 2019 through May 4, 2019 = 40% of remaining balance of contract.

How do I cancel my contract?

Students are held liable for room and board charges until the cancellation is approved in writing by University Housing.

  • We cannot take cancellations over the phone. 
  • In order to cancel your housing contract, follow the steps below depending on whether you are cancelling before hall opening or after hall opening. 
  • Withdrawing or suspension from UNL will not automatically cancel your contract. 
  • It is not possible for another UNL department to cancel your contract.

Canceling BEFORE hall opening

(I have NOT picked up my room key and/or have checked into my assigned room/hall): Log into your Housing contract in MyRed and choose "Cancel Contract." You will receive confirmation (by email) that we have received your cancellation.

Canceling AFTER hall opening

(I have picked up my room key and/or have checked into my assigned room/hall): Anyone wishing to cancel their contract after they have picked up their key and/or checked into their assigned room must contact their Residence Director (RD).  No cancellation will be considered without the proper residence hall check-out form completed, keys returned, etc.
