Job Description

Desk Assistants (DAs) are a general hub of knowledge in Housing and help to address questions or issues that come up. Desk Assistants must have a high degree of integrity and display a continuous commitment to customer service in the residence halls. The ability to interact with a variety of students, faculty, Housing staff, peers, shareholders, and campus guests is necessary for success in the position. The ability to demonstrate patience, initiative, and problem solving are integral to this campus position.

  • Assisting with hall opening and closing
  • Greet and assist individuals with questions/concerns
  • Check out equipment and games
  • Providing room lockout services, complete room moves, process mail and packages
  • Help with projects and tasks as needed

A desk assistant works closely with the Student Services Manager (SSM) in the complex to develop a cohesive team that serves students.

Job Details

Starting wage: $12.25 per hour (daytime), $13.25 (nights)

Date of notification: On-going. Desk assistants are generally hired during the spring for the following academic year. Openings are based on need in each complex.

Hiring process: Application and interview

Timeline

Desk assistant interviews are completed in April for the following academic year. Successful candidates are notified via email by May. If hired, work begins in August.

You're welcome to fill out an application for a future position. You'll be placed on the waitlist. The hiring committee reviews applications throughout the year and will contact you if you're selected for an interview.

Position Notes

  • Residence hall front desks are open on holidays, during breaks, weekdays, weeknights, overnights, and weekends. Ideal candidates are available to work a combination of different hours.
  • New desk assistants must complete an interview, accept an offer, complete a payroll appointment, and do two paid training shifts plus a new desk assistant training (4 hours) with a professional staff.
