A student's picture NCard is scanned at the dining center every time they eat. Students may eat at any of the UNL Dining Centers. You are not restricted to eat in the complex where you live. Unlimited meals are available for those students with a 5– or 7– day unlimited meal contract.

Changing Your Meal Plan
Students living in traditional or suite-style housing must choose either a 5– or 7–day meal plan. A 5– or 7–day meal plan is required and included in the price of the overall housing contract. See the Billing Plans page for contract prices.
Students living in apartment-style housing or Husker Hall may add a 5– or 7–day meal plan to their room contract. The 5– or 7–day meal contract covers the entire academic year (both fall and spring semesters). The overall apartment-style contract does include two complimentary meals, Monday thru Friday.

Students living in Love Memorial Coop, as part of the cooperative housing experience, are required to participate in weekly cooking and cleaning rotations. A total of $1,000 for the academic year is charged to the student's UNL centralized bill for a food allowance. This amount is subject to change if found to be inadequate.
Students living in off-campus housing can purchase either a 5– or 7–day meal-only contract or individual guest meals as needed. The off-campus meal-only contract covers the entire academic year (both fall and spring semesters).

NOTE: The total advance payment will be applied to the last billing cycle of the spring semester. The advance payment will be applied to the student's centralized billing account and may be applied to University charges other than Housing charges. The meal-only contract cancellation policy includes a cancellation fee of 40% of the remaining balance of the contract applied if a student cancels during their contract period. However, students contracting for the full academic year may cancel their spring contract by December 15 with a $30 processing fee. Not eating will not cancel a contract. A written cancellation notification must be received by the Housing Contracts Office.
Guest meals can be used by students who eat in the dining centers infrequently enough that purchasing a meal plan is impractical. Guest meals can be paid for via cash or NCard. For information on guest meal pricing, see the Guest Prices page.
A student’s NCard is scanned at the residence hall cafeteria each time he/she eats. The NCard is not transferable and is to be used only by the person to whom it is issued. Both 5– and 7–day meal plans permit great flexibility in dining times and locations and presuppose occasional absenteeism, so no refunds will be granted for missed meals.

BEFORE JULY 15: You may access your Housing contract online and choose "edit" to make changes to your meal plan.
AFTER JULY 15: You may e-mail your changes to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please indicate your name, eight digit NU ID number and the specific change you are requesting. The contract change fee of $30 will be charged for each change and will be posted to your UNL centralized bill.
