Abel/Sandoz Meal Options during Renovation 2009/2010

Frequently Asked Questions

Special dining arrangements have been made for Abel/Sandoz residents during the renovation of the dining center for the 2009-2010 academic year. University Housing will provide on-site catered meals at Abel/Sandoz for breakfast and dinner, Monday through Friday. As always, Abel/Sandoz residents will also be able to take meals at any of the other University Housing Dining Centers.

Q: What type of meals and selections will be available for students living at Abel/Sandoz during the 2009/2010 renovation?

A: Students will have a variety of grab 'n go selections at breakfast and dinner (described below):

  • Breakfast - Monday through Friday, 6:45-10:30 a.m.
    • Cereal, yogurt, fruit, bagels, muffins, sweet bread, bread for toast, jellies and margarine.
    • Beverages: juice, milk.
  • Dinner, Monday through Friday, 5-7 p.m.
    • Traditional hot items (including vegetarian selections): selections could include hot entrees, pizza, vegetables, and starches.
    • Cold items: sandwiches, salads, desserts, milk and soda.
  • Lunch, Monday through Friday, will not be served at Abel/Sandoz but students will be able to eat at any of the following locations:
    • Cather/Pound/Neihardt Dining Room
    • Cather/Pound/Neihardt Husker Hoagies, grab 'n go sub sandwiches located at Cather/Pound/Neihardt
    • Harper Dining Center
    • Selleck Dining Service
    • East Campus Union Cafe
    • East Campus Union Corner Deli

Q: Where will the meals be served? Where can students eat their breakfast and dinner?

A: Mari's Lounge, formerly "the fishbowl", entered through Sandoz or the Welcome Center, has been fully-renovated and will be used as the serving and dining area for the grab 'n go breakfasts and dinners. Additional dining space, if needed, will be available in the new Welcome Center connecting Abel and Sandoz Halls. Of course, students will also be able to take their meals to their rooms or to another location as desired.

Q: What if a student has special nutritional/dietary requirements?

A: Please contact Pam Edwards, Assistant Director, University Dining Service at 402-472-9045 or pedwards1@unl.edu with any special nutritional/dietary requirements. She will discuss needs with the student and/or parents and coordinate meetings with the Dining Service management staff so that the needs of the students are met.

Q: What about weekend meals?

A: For Saturday and Sunday, Brunch and Dinner will be served at Selleck and Harper Dining Centers and East Campus Union Cafe. The hours will be as follows:

  • Brunch:
    • Selleck, Saturday and Sunday, 10:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m.
    • Harper, Saturday and Sunday, 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
    • East Campus Cafe, Saturday and Sunday, 10:45 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Dinner:
    • Selleck, Saturday, 4:30-7:30 p.m.
    • Selleck, Sunday, 4:30-8 p.m.
    • Harper, Saturday and Sunday, 4:30-7 p.m.
    • East Campus Cafe, Saturday and Sunday, 5-7 p.m.
