Abel/Sandoz: Dining Center, Wireless and Parking

• The Abel Dining Center will be renovated during the 2009-2010 academic year. Follow this link to read about Abel/Sandoz Meal Options for 2009-2010.
• Due to this construction project, students will find that some pedestrian and vehicular traffic patterns in and around the Abel/Sandoz complex will be affected. We will do all we can to minimize any inconvenience to our residents during the renovation process.
• Wireless: In addition to conventional wired internet service in each student room, wireless internet service is now available. Students will need to register for wireless service once they arrive on campus. Due to construction during summer 2009, wireless service may not be available in some parts of Abel Hall until part way through the fall semester.
• UNL Housing has been informed by UNL Parking and Transit Services that a new parking garage to be located east of Abel/Sandoz has been proposed, with construction to occur during the 2009/2010 academic year. Please follow this link for recommended parking alternatives.

Abel/Sandoz Fall 2009:

• South end of all floors in Abel will have renovations done within the building core, including restrooms, new lounges, etc.
• Welcome Center connecting Abel, Sandoz and the Dining Center will be completed.
  1. Res Life & Learning Community Offices will be located in the Welcome Center.
  2. There will be one desk to serve both Abel and Sandoz located in the Welcome Center.
  3. Access to the Dining Center from both Abel and Sandoz will be through the Welcome Center, until the Dining Center renovations begin.

Abel/Sandoz Fall 2010:

• Sandoz renovations are complete, including the following;
  1. Windows, HVAC in each student room
  2. Residential floor "core" renovations: restrooms, study and social lounges, new exterior lounge near the elevator, laundry rooms added
  3. First floor Sandoz renovation is complete: study rooms, etc.
  4. Mari's Lounge (formerly "the fishbowl") converted from offices into open conference/ballroom/meeting space

New Residence Hall at 17th & R St.

• Coming in 2010: University Housing will open a new 565-bed, suite-style residence hall in August, 2010. The new hall is located at 17th & R streets (across from Pound Hall), and will include a new convenience store and grab 'n go breakfast area. Each suite will house four students in double and single bedrooms, and have a living room and private bathroom. Look for more information about this beautiful new hall sometime during the fall, 2009 semester.
