After a year of planning, renovation of the Abel and Sandoz residence has begun.
Due to construction work north of Abel, entry from the outside into Abel Dining and the Abel Ballroom from the north will be restricted. This door will be available for emergency exit only.
Access to Abel Dining and the Abel Ballroom will still be possible from the first floor of north Abel through the walkway to Abel Dining.
Some work will occur in the Abel basement and will affect some sections of the laundry area.

Fall 2008:
North end of all floors in Abel will have renovations done within the building core. All floors will have new lounges and laundry rooms in place in the "core." Restrooms located in the north end will be renovated.
All rooms in Abel will have new heating/cooling equipment installed.
All rooms in Abel will have new windows installed.
First floor of Abel will be fully renovated. Abel Res Life and Learning Community offices will be located in new study rooms for the 2008/09 school year. There will also be a temporary hall desk located in Abel hall.
There will be on-going construction at the new Welcome Center throughout the school year.
Access to Abel Dining and Abel snack bar:
From Abel: through the north corridor 1st floor) or the building tunnel located in the south end of Abel. Take the stairs up to the dining center or snack bar area.
From Sandoz: from Sandoz 1st floor to the tunnel in the basement, then to the Abel basement, taking the stairs up to the dining center or snack bar area.
Access to Sandoz hall will no longer be through the "fishbowl" entrance on the west, due to construction staging taking place at that location. Sandoz Hall access will be one of the following three ways:
Through the north or south Abel (west side) entrance; down to the basement; then through the tunnel to Sandoz and up the stairs or elevator in Sandoz.
Through the east entrance to Sandoz.
Through a new entrance/exit in the southwest portion of Sandoz.
Fall 2009:
South end of all floors in Abel will have renovations done within the building core, including restrooms, new lounges, etc.
Welcome Center connecting Abel, Sandoz and the Dining Center will be completed.
Res Life & Learning Community Offices will be located in the Welcome Center. This opens up the study rooms on Abel 1st used temporarily for offices.
Main desk for both Abel and Sandoz will be located in the Welcome Center.
Access to the Dining Center from both Abel and Sandoz will be through the Welcome Center, unless it is under renovation by that time.
Fall 2010:
Sandoz renovations are complete, including the following;
Windows, HVAC in each student room
Residential floor "core" renovations: restrooms, study and social lounges, new exterior lounge near the elevator, laundry rooms added
First floor Sandoz renovation is complete: study rooms, etc.
Fishbowl converted from offices into open conference/ballroom/meeting space
