Assistant Residence Director (ARD):

ARDs work in some of our traditional residence halls and are responsible for assisting the RD in supervising staff. This can include supervising programming, assisting with duty and advising student staff. ARDs have previous RA or CRA experience and live in the hall.

"It's cool to have more responsibility. You're able to still connect with the RA staff but more with the pro staff too." - Seth, ARD

Senior Resident Assistant (SRA):

SRAs work in some of our traditional residence halls and are responsible for helping supervise the staff along with the RD in addition to their RA duties. SRAs have previous RA or CRA experience.

"Having the SRA opportunity has definitely left a mark on my life and may as well be my greatest ongoing contribution at the University of Nebraska. Of course, I have been part of and I am currently in many great groups and organizations that have lasting impacts. But none of these activities permitted me to influence and impact as many people on same level as Senior Resident Assistant at UNL. I strongly believe that this job has granted me the ability to lead, persuade, and direct people through smiles, a warm heart, winsomeness, joy, and the desire to experience personal, academic, and social adventures." - Kate, SRA

Senior Community Resident Assistant (SCRA):

SCRAs work in our apartment-style halls and are responsible for helping supervise the staff along with the RD in addition to their CRA duties. SCRAs have previous RA or CRA experience.

"I feel that I get something new from this job everyday, whether it is overcoming an obstacle or having the time of my life. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything else on campus, because it shapes you into a leader and that's invaluable." - Stacey, SCRA

Housing Government and Student Organizations:

Within housing, there are several different student groups that help run our halls. This includes the Residence Hall Association (RHA), which oversees all hall governments and programs campus-wide. Hall governments plan programs to improve their hall as well as participate in campus-wide events including Homecoming and the Huskers Series of Pop Culture. The Scarlet and Cream chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) is an organization devoted to service, scholarship and recognition and it comprised of the top 1% of Residence Hall leaders.

Allison Kenney "In March 2006, I learned that the man I planned to marry in a few months was applying to the graduate program in music at UNL. I was in the midst of my first year as a professional hall director at the university where I had completed both my bachelor's and master's degree. Knowing little about Nebraska or UNL, I sought out their website. My research indicated that UNL had a thriving housing department that was currently engaged in various renovation projects and had recently opened two apartment-style residence halls. Hooked, I applied for a vacant Residence Director position, hopeful that someone there would be interested.

A few weeks passed, and before I knew it, I was flying from North Carolina (the only place I had ever called home) to Lincoln, Nebraska. While there, I toured residence halls and met some amazing individuals. As I left my on-campus interview, I found myself telling one of them that I would probably miss the people I had met during my stay. I felt like the visit, although brief, had allowed me to form lasting connections with those I encountered. When I received the offer, I needed no time to mull it over. I couldn't wait to become a Husker. Several months passed, and we packed all of our belongings and set out for our new home in Lincoln. The moment we stepped foot on campus, we felt welcomed by the staff and students. My would-be staff members gave us a wedding gift, my new coworkers threw us a shower, and several residents decorated our apartment door with signs wishing us "Congratulations" on our recent marriage. I can't say I have ever seen so much kindness in one place.

Now, many months later, we still feel that same hospitality and caring attitude every day. I have been fortunate to further those connections I made during my on-campus interview, and I work with a talented group of student staff members, whose energy and excitement are boundless. The excitement that greets me as I approach each day affirms that I made the right decision to choose UNL.

Here, we have found a place to call home and people that we love. Truly, "There is no place like Nebraska."
