Rights & Responsibilities
Safety & Security
Your safety is important to us. Residence hall staff works with the UNL Police Department (UNLPD) and residents to identify and resolve security problems. Students' safety and security starts with them. As an individual, you are as safe as you are smart. Crime prevention strategies are learned behaviors. Safe behaviors learned at college will serve students well now, as well as when their set up their own households in the future. We urge students to learn and practice safe behaviors.
Several of our residence halls have electronically locked outside building doors, accessible only by residents of the hall with their NU ID. These buildings are Abel/Sandoz, Harper, Schramm, Smith, The Village, Cather, Pound, Neihardt, The Courtyards, Selleck and Kauffman.
We encourage you to watch for the publicity about Personal Safety programs being held in each housing complex during the first two weeks of the fall semester. These programs will provide you with important information about residence hall and safety, and you'll receive important instructions on how to inventory your valuables, have your bike marked, etc.
