University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Since 1869, Lincoln has been home to the flagship campus of the University Nebraska and has been designated a Carnegie I research institution. In 1886 it became the first graduate college west of the Mississippi river. Originally built to ensure excellence in technical and agricultural studies, UNL now offers 149 undergraduate degree programs and 116 graduate degree programs from 10 nationally acclaimed colleges. Approximately 20,000 students attend classes each year.The University of Nebraska Lincoln is internationally known for excellence in teaching, research, and service. The Cornhusker athletic teams exemplify this tradition of high classroom achievement. More Huskers have been awarded the title 'Academic All American' (football alone and all sports combined) than student-athletes of any other university.
The university campus borders downtown, within walking distance of many hotels, restaurants, shops, theatres, museums, and other attractions.
Transportation
Traveling to Lincoln couldn't be easier. Lincoln Municipal Airport is located about eight minutes from campus and downtown, and is serviced by national carriers connecting to over 400 US locations. An added bonus, the airport "Red Coats" offer friendly baggage handling service at no charge and tipping is not accepted. Taxi and hotel shuttle ease the trip to and from the airport, with rental car desks available just yards from the terminal doors.Amtrak provides daily rail service to Lincoln from Denver and Chicago. Dining, lounge and sleeping cars are all available. The historic train station, located in the Haymarket district, is on the edge of campus.
Conveniently located along Interstate 80, the nation's main coast to coast artery, travel from the east or west is simple. Travelers from the north and south can use Interstate 29 via US Highway 2 along with US Highway 77.
